Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have their one-year-old daughter North West’s ears pierced, sparking debate in Twitterverse. Members of the social media universe have raised mixed reactions, mostly expressing fear of the baby’s health safety. A health official recommended in an interview with CNN to wait until a child is six months old before having her ears pierced.

North West is making the headlines when her photo, with a diamond stud clearly seen pierced in her right ear, emerged online. The newly married couple have been facing the backlash since then, criticizing Kimye for putting North West in danger, according to CNN.
One user described piercing Baby North’s ears as “cruel.”
@Littlemisskatyb: “Kim Kardashian has pierced her one-year-old's ears? That's cruel AND tacky…”
@funkypambo: “I can't believe Kim Kardashian pierced her daughters ears. Nothing worse than a baby with pierced ears!”
Some however, sounded supportive of Kim Kardashian, noting that the reality show star has every right to decide when her daughter will have her own set of accessories.
@sambamyo: “Who cares if Baby North West has her ears pierced! Most girls get them at that age!”
@Charreah: “I try to stay away from convos on how people parent (without harm). This #northwest piercing saga is so annoying. Her mom has every right.”
Featured on CNN, Piercing Pagoda said that it offers piercing services for babies 2 months and older, but only if they are accompanied by "an identified parent or legal guardian." Piercing Pagoda has been piercing newborns since 1969 and it prides itself having done over 20 million piercings.
Though Piercing Pagoda finds no challenges piercing babies 2 months old, an official from Seattle Children’s Hospital recommended that babies must at least be six months old before they undergo the process.
"Ear piercing is always unnecessary, so if you're wanting to reduce all risks, wait as long as you can into childhood," the executive director for the general hospital's digital health department, Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson, said in an email, according to CNN.
Six months is ideal before the babies are pierced as this would mean that their immune system are more developed and "your baby can have three tetanus shots, along with more mature earlobes.”
With Swanson’s assessment, members of the Twitterverse can relax as this indicates a safe medical procedure for Kimye’s baby, North West, added CNN.
