According to media reports, the new season of the show, which is slated to air on Friday, April 10, will gather the contestants from the three previous seasons, including Tang. However, on March 31, Hong Tao, the director of the show, posted ad angry message on his Weibo page which says, "If you refuse to change your song, we will replace you! Good night!"
The director did not specify whom he was talking about, but many have speculated that he was talking about Tang, who has been criticized many times for behaving like a diva.
On April 1, Hong posted yet another message on Weibo which confirms that he was talking about Tang in his previous post. He said, "G.E.M. Tang could not accommodate the crew's request, and she has decided to drop out from the show."
Furthermore, according to the director, the show maintains a format wherein the performing contestants have to sing covers of other singers' songs. Reportedly, Hong stated that the crew allowed Tang to sing her songs at first, but the other contestants were told to change their songs. The director pointed out that it will be unfair if Tang will sing her own songs while the others would have to do covers.
Tang has then confirmed the director's statement regarding her withdrawal, but in her defense, she explained that she wants to give her all in every performance and she didn't want to give an obligatory performance, adding that she did not want to let her audience down.
Tang has then apologized to the public for the disappointment and expressed her gratefulness to 'I Am a Singer' which she considers an instrument for her to showcase her talent.
On the other hand, Taiwanese singer A-Lin will be taking Tang's place in the show.
