Police said that the man who killed himself, Friday, in a designated smoking area beside the "Despicable Me Minion Mayhem" ride at Universal Studios was a 38-year old man from Orange County.
The man shot himself to death after he tried to visit his ex-girlfriend, one of the theme park's employees, who filed a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend.

According to the Los Angeles County police, the woman involved was able to spot the man immediately and had alerted security at around 2:15 pm.
As reported by NBC Los Angeles, security were able to find the man, then unidentified, in the smoking area behind the "Despicable Me" ride. The man, who probably saw the security closing in on him, rapidly reached out to his back pocket to pull a gun and placed it in his mouth.
Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Eddie Hernandez said that the deputy attempted to talk him out and dissuade him of what he was about to do, however, "after going back and forth" for about thirty seconds, the man decided to pull the trigger and shoot himself.
Police found out that two restraining orders were filed against the man, with one filed just last week because he vandalized his ex-girlfriend's car on the parking lot of Universal Studios.
The former couple share one child together.
Police reported that a total of four guests witnessed the man's death. Two witnesses, Zanel Mitchell and her mom saw what happened as they exited the "Despicable Me" ride. Zanel said that she could not stop bawling because she was "really, really, scared."
Guns and other deadly weapons are not allowed inside the theme park, but the troubled man was able to smuggle the gun because Universal Studios does not use metal detectors, though security guards check the bags of guests before entering the park.
A spokeswoman for Universal Studios announced that the theme park is open and is currently working with the authorities so they can conduct their investigation. In an official statement, she said, "The safety and security of our guests is always of the utmost importance."
