Justin Bieber’s on-and-off, girlfriend, Selena Gomez has been under fire in the social media over the weekend following her post enjoining the public to “pray for Gaza.”
The image post reads: “It’s About Humanity. Pray for Gaza.”
With the Instagram photo is a kilometric caption that said, "Please pray for those families and babies today. Please always remember what's important in life. It's not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love. Be that change. #wearethenextgeneration,"

The message she sent out Saturday was widely received by her followers on the social networking site. Billboard noted that it was well-received with an estimated half a million likes as of July 19. One-fifth of her followers however, did not seem to be on the same page with the “Come and Get It,” singer.
Bieber’s ex has 21.5 million followers on Twitter.
A follower of the star was quoted by Times of Israel condemning her earlier post.
@gil_magen: “You haven’t heard rockets that have been launched to Israel from Gaza before the war, because you don’t live in Israel!”
Some followers, according to KPopStarz condemned Gomez saying, "You don't know what's going in Israel." One noted that, "You're taking advantage of your position because you are famous,” while another said, "You support terror, I really loved you until this moment."
The website also warned the Disney star not to fly to Israel, added KPopStarz: "Do not come to Israel hate you here!!! You've lost a lot of fans stupid!"
Instagram users who also saw her post warned Gomez that they would unfollow the “Spring Breakers” star. Some of them kept their promise.
Others however, have praised the singer for keeping her cool and remaining steadfast amidst the threats, pointing out that Gomez kept the post even after the flak received from Instagram followers.
@XoSadiaaa : “Selena Gomez still has the "Pray For Gaza" post up despite all the rude, ignorant and threatnenig comments. Props to her!”
@theafghanakh: “Selena Gomez posted a pic saying Pray for Gaza and now she has lost all her followers on Instagram.Shes got 0 now is this freedom of speech?”
@jakestein97: “Hey Selena Gomez, while you're "praying for Gaza" just remember that as a woman you have no rights there!
@zarahsultana: “You don't have to be Muslim/Arab to care about Gaza. You just need to be human. Respect to Selena Gomez posting this.”
The “Kiss and Tell,” singer later explained that she was not at all taking sides and her call was all about “peace and humanity.” Using a photo of a woman meditating in the middle of the ocean, Gomez later tweeted of her partiality.
Gomez tweeted, "And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all!"
The “Ramona and Beezus” star joins more celebrities who have weighed in on Gaza-Israel conflict and have been underfire for it. Rihanna herself landed in hot water when she tweeted “#FreePalestine.” Chris Brown’s ex later replaced it with a new message that said: "Let's pray for peace and a swift end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?"
Selena has kept her “Pray for Gaza” post as of press time.
