Rammasun made a landfall on Friday afternoon in the island province of Hainan where eight people, including two government officials from the rescue team, were confirmed dead while the other nine were from Guangxi.

Five more people are reported missing according to local authorities.

Latest records indicate over 5.57 million Chinese were affected by the monster typhoon in South China, which swept through the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and several coastal cities in the provinces of Guangdong and Hainan.

The typhoon wrecked telecommunication networks, power and water supplies, leaving over 1.13 million households out of electricity.

With around 51,000 houses and 468,500 hectares of crop devastated, Typhoon Rammasun left southern China with economic losses of more than 26 billion yuan, or US$4.3 billion.

One hundred million yuan have been allocated by the local government to aid areas that received the worst damage.

Power supply was restored to the city proper of Haikou on Sunday evening while electricity will be returned to the entire city within three days, the local power grid company said.

All airports have reopened on Sunday in Hainan and train services are expected to resume in Guangxi on Monday.

According to meteorological authorities, Typhoon Rammasun is estimated to continue its course northwest at 20 kilometers per hour causing strong rains to the west of Yunnan and Hainan Province.

The typhoon brought havoc to northern Philippines last week leaving 94 dead and is currently on its way to Vietnam.
