A nine-year-old boy is making headlines in South Africa as he weds his 62-year-old bride for the second time, reports state.

The young Saneie Masilela sensationally married his much-older bride, Helen Shabangu, for the first time in 2013, and the two recreated their vows again this year in Ximhungwe.

Ms. Shabangu, who is already married and has five children with 66-year-old Alfred Shabangu, exchanged vows with the young groom and sealed the ceremony with a kiss on the lips.

Despite being at the receiving end of criticism regarding the marriage, both the Shabangu family and the boy's mother remain unapologetic.

Saneie's mother has stated that dead ancestors instructed her son to go through with the marriage and he did so in order to prevent something bad from happening to the family.

"I'm very happy that the boy chose me and my family support and understand that it is part of making ancestors happy," the bride was quoted as saying.

The young boy also seems to see the true purpose behind the marriage and told news sources that he plans on completing school and eventually marrying someone his own age.

Ms. Shabangu's husband was also in attendance at the wedding to offer his full support.

Other villagers have reportedly referred the event as 'sickening' and questioned the couple about whether or not the nine-year-old groom would live with his older bride, sleep with her, and eventually have children with her.

However, Saneie's mother, Patience, laid the rumors to rest stating that following the wedding everything would go back to normal. The families looked at the ceremony as 'playing' in order to appease dead ancestors and keep bad luck at bay.

However, the young boy seemed to take the whole situation a bit more seriously and remarked that he was marrying Ms. Shabangu because he loves her.

At nine-years-old, Saneie is considered the world's youngest groom.
