Rihanna also performed her most recently released track, “B***h Better Have My Money.” According to the report, Riri’s performance at the festival was also her means of protesting against the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act. “Who is feeling these new bulls**t laws they are trying to pass around here?” she asked the crowd.
Keeping up with the latest trend among some of today’s biggest music makers, Rihanna also released her newest song on Tidal, which happens to be the newly famous membership-based streaming music service owned by Jay Z, according to Access Hollywood.
Rihanna’s launch marks the second huge Tidal debut since the streaming service was opened to public last week. Beyonce has just premiered her new Tidal-only hit, “Die with You” on Saturday.
The 27-year-old pop star’s latest video showcased some somber tones of a conflicted immigrant. It featured clips showing public riots in Ferguson, shots from the 9/11 terrorism attack, the coffin of the late Martin Luther King, Jr., and clips that showed the white supremacist group, Ku Klux Klan. The scenes were juxtaposed with Rihanna’s portions, where she was shown wearing a fitting white T-shirt.
The eight-time Grammy winner, whose original roots were in Barbados, moved to Manhattan at the young age of 16. TMZ reportedly asked her about her visit to the White House last year, inquiring about what she liked most about the experience. “My President being black,” the Barbadian diva replied.
The directors of “American Oxygen” were from The Uprising Creative, namely, Darren Craig, Jeff Nicholas, and Jonathan Craven. This trio was reportedly the same group who were behind her 2013 “What Now” music video, according to Daily Mail.
As seen in the “American Oxygen” music video, Riri also wore a bomber jacket, as well as a parachute, that further added to the raw emotions that were being depicted in the emotional music clip.
