King has been living with the debilitating condition for more than two decades.
King cancelled his scheduled eight performances last year due to dehydration and exhaustion.
Last year, the singer's representatives released an official statement, apologizing to the fans following a poor performance in the Peabody Opera House in St. Louis.
King reportedly 'rambled' and paused for 45 minutes before regaining strength to perform.
"The combination of the rigors of the very long drive and high blood sugar due to his medication error resulted in a performance that did not match Mr. King's usual standard of excellence," according to the official statement.
King released his first single in 1949 and is well known for his collaborations with other musical artists such as Eric Clapton, U2 and The Rolling Stones.
King was ranked 17th in Gibson's 'Top 50 Guitarists Of All Time' and was at the 6th place of the 2011 list '100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time' by the magazine Rolling Stone.
The blues legend was married twice. His first marriage was to Martha Lee Denton from 1946 to 1952 and second marriage to Sue Carol Hall from 1958 to 1966.
It was publicly speculated that the musical legend fathered 15 children, which produced 50 grandchildren as his descendants.
King's last album released was in 2008,titled 'One Kind Favor', which was produced by T-Bone Burnett
