Apple Planning 8K iMac, According to LG Display

(Photo : Reuters) Apple is planning an 8K iMac this year, at least according to LG Display.
Apple shocked a lot of people last year by revamping its iMac to feature a 5K display, alongside a range of other announcement to spice up the Mac lineup for customers.
The 5K iMac was seen as a huge push into better display technology but Apple might not be stopping there. There's a new rumor coming from LG Display that an 8K iMac is on the way.

"Apple has also announced that they will release the 'iMac 8K' with a super-high resolution display later this year," said LG Display in a blog post. The only issue is Apple hasn't announced the next iMac, and tends to get quite angry when products are leaked.
8K is the next big step in display technology, 7,680 x 4,320 to be precise. It's double the display resolution of the current 4K trend and since it came so early, display experts believe the TV industry will make a huge leap to 8K before 2016.
Having an 8K iMac would be overkill in terms of current applications that can handle that many pixels. Considering most app developers are only just adding a 4K option, the next step might not be readily supported until 2018.
Apple does like to be a trendsetter even though the retina display has lasted way too long and the iPhone 6 display still sucks compared to some Android variants. If it sees 8K as a viable option for the 27-inch iMac, we can expect it will be available this year.
It will most likely come with changes to the MacBook Air and Pro lineup to fit in with the new 12-inch MacBook -- the super-thin notebook that has been made for light users that want excellent portability and design.
The Mac range has become much more popular in the past few years, the only computer brand to continue growing in sales while the industry falls. Apple sold 5.5 million units last year, making more revenue on Mac than they did on iPad.
This could push Apple to focus heavily on the Mac side while letting the iPad slide off. It has a much higher profit margin on the Mac (including the MacBook Air and Pro), meaning if it can sell a laptop or a tablet, it's going to try and sell the laptop.
