Katy Perry may be well-intentioned, but well-informed she is not.
Amidst the countless tweets of condolences for the families and friends of those who perished on the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, pop singer Katy Perry's stood out not for the heartfelt brevity of her tweet, but for her misinformation.

Perry tweeted, "So INCREDIBLY sad to hear that there were 100 volunteers for @UNICEF on flight #MH17 Sending our prayers to all the families effected".
Katy has more than 50 million followers on Twitter.
A UNICEF spokesperson confirmed to Fairfax Media that no UNICEF staff member or volunteer was on the Malaysia Airlines flight.
The spokesperson for the organization clarified that all 100 UNICEF delegates attending the International AIDS conference are safe and sound and had arrived safely in Melbourne, Australia.
"We do have global UNICEF staff and volunteers at the conference, including four Unicef Australia Young Ambassadors."
Presumably, Perry had confused UNICEF delegates for the HIV researchers and activists who boarded the Malaysia Airlines plane. The said victims were also on their way to the AIDS conference.
Among the 298 passengers that died in the tragedy were the former International AIDS Society president, Joep Lange, and a number of World Health Organization staff members were on MH17.
Although Perry's tweet caused some confusion, it was better received than a MH17-related tweet by Jason Biggs, star of "Orange is the New Black" and "American Pie", which caused international outrage. Biggs wrote, "Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?"
UNICEF appointed Perry Goodwill Ambassador last year.
Perry has allowed UNICEF to freely use her hit "Unconditionally" in their campaign entitled "#showthelove". The campaign aims to promote open discussions about sex and sexual health without bias or judgment.
The 29-year old singer just completed her concert series in Toronto, Canada.
