The two trains allegedly collided at a track cross, roughly a quarter-mile east of Kettle Moraine road.

According to fire officials, 100 homes had to be evacuated because of diesel spill from the derailed trains.

An area from Storck Street to Kettle Moraine and Slinger Road to Highway 60, close to Slinger High School, has been blocked off.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the accident that, according to Slinger Fire Department Chief Rick Hanke, derailed three engines and 10 railcars.

It was not yet known at what speed the two trains collided.

Chief Hanke told AP, that about 5.000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from an engine.

To contain the spill, Hazmat crews from Washington County had dikes and booms in place, but it was still necessary to evacuate the 100 homes to avoid further damages or injuries.

Even if the diesel oil did not catch fire, six fire departments were at the scene,

The Canadian National train was headed from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Champaign, Illinois.

Residents from the more than 100 homes that were evacuated were told to seek refuge at the Slinger Middle School.

The Red Cross is assisting the evacuees at the school.

Slinger is about 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee, the biggest town in Wisconsin on the Southwestern bank of Lake Michigan.
