Before his death, Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman didn't pay heed to his accountant's suggestion to set up a trust fund for his children. Hoffman's rejection apparently stemmed from his refusal to let 10-year old Cooper, 7-year old Tallulah, and 5-year old Willa become "trust fund kids" and grow up to become spoiled brats.

Hoffman's accountant, David Friedman, was interviewed by the children's court-appointed lawyer, Attorney James Cahill, Jr., in the Manhattan Surrogate Court last July 18 for Hoffman's estate proceedings.
Friedman revealed how the actor felt about setting up a trust fund for the kids, and said that Hoffman wanted his assets to go to his longtime partner and mother of his children, Mimi O'Donnell. The actor was worth an estimated $35 million when he passed away.
Hoffman and O'Donnell never married, because Hoffman "simply did not believe in marriage."
However, Friedman made it clear that Hoffman saw and treated O'Donnell "in the same manner as if she were a spouse," leaving her his fortune because he knew she would take care of the children.
O'Donnell also has substantial joint bank accounts with Hoffman.
The will, written before his two daughters were born, also stated where he wanted his son Cooper to be raised. He said that he wished for Cooper to reside near Manhattan, Chicago or San Francisco, his reason being so his son could be be "exposed to the culture, arts and architecture that such cities offer."
According to Cahill, there is nothing suspicious about the will and he believes that the court won't have any issues about approving it.
Hoffman died of a drug overdose in his Manhattan apartment last February. He was 46.
He is best known for his Oscar-winning title role in "Capote," and for his roles in blockbusters such as "Boogie Nights," "Almost Famous," "Moneyball" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire".
The last movie he filmed, "A Most Wanted Man," opened in theaters last July 18.
