'Shake It Off' singer Taylor Swift, who has a good rapport with her fans, revealed that her mother, Andrea, has been diagnosed with cancer last Thursday, according to ABC News.

"I'm writing to you with an update I wish I wasn't giving you, but it's important and I'm used to sharing important events in my life with you. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now," said Swift, through a heartfelt post to her fans in Tumblr.

"For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer," the 25 year old singer further added.

Swift didn't discuss details about her mother's condition or the severity of the illness, stressing on the fact that she would like to keep the treatment and her mother's current condition 'private'.

Meanwhile, Swift's fans offered prayers and support for the 'Blank Space' singer. #PrayForMamaSwift became a trending hashtag on Twitter and Swift's tweet about her mom was retweeted more than 21,000 times, according to CNN News.

The singer also encouraged the fans to make sure their parents get their early screening done to detect any form of cancer and other health problems that bear a risk to severe illness.

"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle," said Swift.

Swift ended her post by thanking the fans and hoping they never get 'any news like this'.
