Facebook Still Teen's Favorite Social Network Despite Lack of Growth

Even with previous reports claiming no teenager actively uses Facebook, nonprofit research group Pew Research Center has compiled a list of the most popular and preferred social networks for all types of teenagers.
The results are interesting. Most importantly, Facebook is the most preferred social network with 71 percent of teens using the service, higher than the 52 percent using Instagram and 41 percent using Snapchat.

It does seem like older teenagers, or those 15 to 19, tend to use Facebook more often than younger teens that prefer services like Snapchat and Instagram. The growth of anonymous services like Yik Yak wasn't referenced but should be quite high on young teens' downloads.
Gender plays a big part in what social network you tend to use. Boys prefer using Facebook, Twitter and other text based services, while girls are more active on Instagram, Snapchat and Tumblr, photo and blog centric networks.
The income from parents also may influence the social network, with rich families tending to enjoy Snapchat and Twitter and poorer families adopting Facebook.
Adoption of mobile devices plays heavily in most teens lives, with three quarters of teens surveyed owning a mobile device. Apps like Snapchat, Vine and Facebook Messenger are only available on mobile, making anyone that doesn't have a smartphone limited.
There could be a correlation between non-mobile owners only having Facebook to speak to friends, while teenagers from rich families are able to afford the latest iPhone or Android device that allow them to download Snapchat and Vine.
Facebook has lost its flair for younger audiences as it has gone more corporate. In order to adapt, Facebook acquired both Instagram ($1 billion) and WhatsApp ($19 billion) to facilitate its lack of new users in the teenage bracket.
This news that teenagers still prefer and regularly use Facebook should be a good sign. But we doubt it will stop Facebook from building clones of Snapchat features and trying to become the latest hip thing with new services that build anonymity features into the system to remove all information about the user.
