According to a report by Star Magazine, court and records from the University of Texas reveal that "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm, 44, actively participated in a violent college hazing in 1990.   Jon Hamm is known for his role as advertising executive Don Draper in the drama series "Mad Men" since 2007 that earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2008.

In the 1991 lawsuit filed by Sigma Nu pledge, 20-year old Mark Allen Sanders, Hamm, who was still a student at the University, took an active part in beating up Sanders.  According to records, Hamm became "really mad" after  he failed a test in memorization, part of the initiation rites into the fraternity.  As a result, according to reports, Hamm and other fraternity members severely beat him, yanked him with a hammer, lit his jeans on fire, threw his face in the dirt and repeatedly hit him with a paddle. Sanders added that Hamm even hit him hard on his right kidney. Court records show that as a result of the beating, Sanders had to seek medical care and eventually withdrew from the school.

Criminal records show Hamm was charged with hazing and received deferred adjudication, which means he was never convicted but had to complete probation.  Four other fraternity members were criminally charged and pleaded no contest to the hazing charges.

School records reveal Hamm left school the same semester when the hazing occurred.  In 1993, the lawsuit was dismissed and the Sigma Nu chapter was permanently disbanded on campus.

Hamm, who just completed his treatment for alcohol addiction last month, cannot be reached for comments.

This hazing case only resurfaced this week just as "Mad Men" begins airing its final season.
