We tend to gloss over one very important detail when we look at Miley Cyrus and her profane performances over the past year.

How can today's hottest female pop star who can have any man she wants still be in love with Liam Hemsworth whom she broke up with in September 2013?

The answer's simple. Behind her sexually-charged stage shows; lewd twerking and horny lyrics is Miley Cyrus the incurably romantic little girl who wanted to find love eternal with Liam, her Prince Charming.

"Miley is not over him," said an insider close to Miley.

"The whole downward spiral started when things started to go south between them. All the breaking up then getting back together really messed with her mind.

"This time last year, they were engaged and she was planning to be a devoted wife, stepping away from her career to follow him onto film sets. If things had worked out between them, you wouldn't be seeing this behavior from her."

Another source said Miley's "depressed and in a pretty bad mental state right now. She's closer to rock bottom than she's ever been before."

All this for love. Doesn't sound like the Miley made infamous by her jockeying a wrecking ball in the nude, now does it?

More shattering for Miley, who desperately wants to get back together with Liam, is that the 24-year-old has said he's had enough of Miley and her shocking antics and has told Miley it's time to close that chapter of their lives.

"[He] pretty much said he's done with her for good," said another source.

Miley vented her anger and frustration at Liam very publicly last May at a performance at London's club Gay. In the middle of her act, she went into a rant about the "motherf***ers" who broke her heart."

Entertainment media came to the same conclusion: Miley was only talking about one motherf***er - Liam!

"Miley was trying to get a rise out of Liam. She misses him," a source said.

Liam didn't bite and Miley is left wondering if she'll ever be the girl she truly wants to be: Mrs. Miley Hemsworth.

Unfortunately for Miley, "and they lived happily ever after," wasn't part of her fairy tale. Miley had a three year relationship with Liam-and they were engaged for 14 months.

After announcing their engagement in June 2012, Miley and her Aussie hunk lived together in Los Angeles until they said goodbye last year.

Any romantic girl the likes of Miley will go nuts if all this wonderful romance just crashed and burned. 

No more Mrs. Miley Hemsworth. No more being mother to Liam's baby.
