Popcorn Time Arrives on iOS Through Backdoor Port

(Photo : Reuters) The developers behind Popcorn Time have revived the website after it was shut down by the MPAA.
Popcorn Time isn't allowed on Apple's iOS App Store. The review process has already kicked off a metric ton of piracy-focused streaming services in 2013 and 2014, meaning it's unlikely Popcorn Time will last a week.
Instead of even trying the review process, Popcorn Time has reverse engineered a way to get the app on iOS. Using a new iOS Installer, users can download the app from Windows, port it to iOS and then use it without having to move through the App Store.

It's part of a larger move to create a system for bringing all types of apps onto iOS. Popcorn Time.se -- one of the most popular forks of the streaming service -- claims it wants to disrupt the current system for apps on iOS.
Popcorn Time is already available on iOS through Jailbreak and on the Cydia App Store. This new app allows users to view Popcorn Time without having to jailbreak and avoid losing their warranty, which is revoked when the user adds jailbreak to an iPhone or iPad.
The app is still in beta and Popcorn Time's dev team is working on making it stable. Currently, it doesn't support many of the design frameworks available on most iOS apps that users might find a little disorientating.
In fact, some of the design frameworks seem to come from a way older version of mobile before iOS. Hopefully, as the dev team becomes more interested in the potential iOS client, they'll look to freshen it up to fit iOS 8.
Popcorn Time has taken over The Pirate Bay and other piracy websites as the main Hollywood threat, at least according to CEO Reed Hastings. The service has a similar user interface to Netflix alongside a huge range of movies, TV shows and anime.
Even though it shut down early last year, dev teams from all over the world started revamping the service. Popcorn Time's end goal is to offer a system that is untraceable and filled with content from all types of media.
The team has been fixing issues with movies not loading for the past few patches following a surge in takedown requests from ISPs in the U.S. and UK.
