Apple decided to start the 12-inch MacBook sale at the same time as the Apple Watch earlier this week and it looks like the notebook has gotten off to a good start, already dropping to a month long wait list for all three colors.
The previous MacBook's have featured silver options only but the new 12-inch MacBook has silver, space grey and gold like the iPhone and iPad. Early reports claim the gold option is the most popular although Apple hasn't confirmed details.

It's surprising the 12-inch MacBook has seen such early success considering reviews have been mixed on the product. Apple might be bumping up numbers due to lack of stock available at launch, similar to the Apple Watch Edition.
The 12-inch MacBook features an all new super-thin design but the lack of space internally means Apple had to pull from the mobile components market, grabbing the Intel Core M processor and 512 GB of storage max.
Apple has never prided themselves on the best performance -- unless we're talking about the Mac Pro -- meaning customers looking at the 12-inch MacBook are probably not interested in high-end specifications.
It does put the 12-inch MacBook in an awkward position where it has around the same performance as the iPad Air 2 but is $500 more expensive. The keyboard, trackpad, additional storage and Mac OS X might make up for the price increase for some customers.
Apple is expected to launch the iPad Pro later this year with a keyboard accessory, higher end specs and new applications for professionals. It will feature a 12.9-inch retina display, making it a larger display than the current 12-inch MacBook.
This would put the 12-inch MacBook in an awkward position unless the price of the iPad Pro with keyboard included is around the same as the MacBook's. It's also going to be interesting to see what Apple does with the MacBook Air and Pro products later this year or next year since one of the Air's major selling points is the thinness of the notebook.
Several providers including Dell, Asus and Lenovo have all come out to poke fun at the 12-inch MacBook but it looks like the mixed reviews and competitor taunts aren't hurting Apple's sales for its newest push in the notebook market.
