The photo was posted anonymously on Imgur earlier this week and now has more than 14,000 views, said the BBC. It went viral after being posted on the website, 9gag.com, and The Daily Mail. People also shared their thoughts on Twitter.

Probably because the image is so deceiving, it first seems the cat is slowly walking down the steps. If you look closely at the photo of the cat, however, it appears the feline is climbing up the stairs.

The existential question now is in what direction this cat is really moving.

#TheCat obviously reminds us of #TheDress last February. The former sparked a storm of controversy over whether a controversial dress had the colors white and gold or blue and black.

The makers of the dress, Roman Originals, later confirmed the dress was indeed, blue and black.
