A Famous HK Martial Artist Liu Jialiang Died of Cancer

Yesterday, Liu Jialiang, a famous director as well as an actor of Kung Fu movies of Hong  Kong died of lymph cancer in Hong Kong at the age of 79 years old.

At 14:30, yesterday, the hospital where Liu Jialiang was treated in issued an announcement concerning Liu's death. Liu's attending doctor Mo Shujing and his friend Chen Baixiang held a press conference then and stated Liu's illness to the public.

According to Dr.Mo, Liu had been fighting with cancer for over ten years and never shrunk back. At the beginning of June, 2013, Liu was continuously affected with fever and kept injecting antibiotics. Till June 21th, his condition turned to be even worse, the pneumonia made him hard to breath, and finally, at 10:17 on June 26th, he left peacefully with families, relatives and friends accompanied at his sides. Liu's close friend, Chen Baixiang, said Liu went away serenely without any regret in a media interview.

Liu Jialiang was born and reared in a family of martial arts, his father, Liu Zhan was the disciple of Lin Shirong, the apprentice of an influential martial artist, Huang Feihong. Therefore, Liu Jialiang was the forth-generation heir of Huang Feihong's arts of Kong Fu.

Liu entered into the movie circle by following his father in the mid-1950s, and started his career as a Kong Fu actor. He became well-known after acting as the martial arts director in the film named Lofty Waters Verdant Bow. Movies in which he participated in production includes Legend of Yung Ching, Golden Swallow, The Boxer from Shantung, etc.

In 1990s, he collaborated with Jackie Chan in the movie Drunken Master, and won the honorary name of the Best Director of Martial Arts in Taiwan Golden Horse Awards and HK Film Awards as well.

On April 10th, 2010, Liu Jialiang was honored the Lifetime Achievement Award in the award ceremony of Hong Kong Film Awards.
