Lionsgate has bought the movie rights to the new novel titled "Luckiest Girl Alive" and has set the movie adaptation with Bruna Papandrea and Reese Witherspoon producing through their production company, Pacific Standard.

The novel, which is written by Jessica Knoll and will be published by Simon and Shuster on May 12, follows the story of a 28-year old woman living in New York, who, on the exterior, appears to be living a perfect life, until a dark trauma from her past comes back to haunt her.

Senior editor of Simon and Schuster, Sarah Knight, whose credentials include Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" and "Dark Places" while at Random House, was also the one who acquired and edited the novel.

As of now, there has been no news as to who will play the lead role in "Luckiest Girl Alive." Bruna and Reese were also producers on the blockbuster hit "Gone Girl"; the biographical drama "Wild"; and the upcoming comedy film "Hot Pursuit", which stars Reese and Sofia Vergara.

As for why the 39-year old Academy Award winner chose to produce the film adaptation of the book, she said, "it's the kind of book that grabs you and does not let go."

Describing the heroine of the book as "complex," though "wily and intelligent," she said that the character and the way she tells the story "are exactly the kind of story, our company, Pacific Standard Films, wants to produce."

Nirokhi Raychaudhuri and Jeyun Choi Munford will manage the project for Lionsgate. The movie deal was negotiated by CAA on behalf of the producers, the novel and of the writer, Jessica.
