Three-Year-Old Boy Shoots, Kills One-Year-Old Brother In Cleveland Home

A three-year-old boy has shot and killed his one-year-old brother, after picking up a gun inside their East Side home in Cleveland, Ohio.

Cleveland Police chief Calvin Williams and his team are still trying to find out how the gun was left within the reach of the child. This resulted in the fatal shooting of his younger brother, Braylon Robinson, on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said charges would be filed against the person who brought the gun inside the house and left it unattended or did not do anything to safeguard the weapon.

"A 3-year-old cannot be held accountable for a tragedy like this," Williams said. "This fascination that we have with handguns, not just in this city but in this country, has to stop. This is a senseless loss of life," he added.

Details of the shooting were not disclosed, but Williams said at least one adult was inside the home when the incident happened.

Police said the child picked up the gun and shot his one-year-old brother in the head. Braylon was immediately taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigating team searched the two-story house for about an hour and a half to find pieces of evidence that may be helpful in the probe. They also took statements from witnesses.

Neighbors said the boys' mother was distraught and was heard screaming after learning her son was shot and had died. They said the mother lived with three children.

"They were really nice," neighbor Larry Simpson said. "It's a shame this had to happen."

People took to Twitter their reactions on the senseless death of Braylon, saying the parents must face charges of negligence and be held liable for the death of their son. Others urged lawmakers to take another look at the nation's gun laws and call for a gun ban.

The Ohio law acknowledges the right of an individual to keep and carry arms. It has very few restrictions on gun ownership and transactions than that provided by Federal law.

Just recently, a new legislation has been drafted that will allow carrying of concealed firearms in the state - with or without a permit or training.
