Flechette shells have been used by the Israeli military in their offensive in the Gaza Strip.
The use of flechettes is illegal under humanitarian laws.
Flechette shells explode in the air and hurl thousand steel darts in all directions. The flechettes or darts are about 4 cm long.

Israelis fired six shells towards the village of Khuzaa in the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR).
Nahla Khalil Najjar, 37-year old woman, was stabbed in the chest by a flechette.
The Israeli military defended their use of the flechettes, saying they only deploy weapons that are legal under international law.
The Israeli Supreme Court did declare the use of flechette rounds legal in 2002.
In 2011, however, the B'Tselem group for Israeli human rights declared fletchettes highly dangerous. For the people of Gaza, today was their worst day of fighting since the conflict started.
Reports said 13 Israeli soldiers and 65 Palestinians were killed since last night.
Health officials also reported that 3,000 people have been wounded and 425 Palestinians killed.
