A U.K. based company has launched a prototype "robo chef" that can cook at home.

This new concept was presented by Moley Robotics and will be launched during this year's Hannover Messe which is an industrial technology trade fair in Germany.

This cooking machine is capable of mimicking human hand movements while preparing meals. These movements are translated into commands that operate these robot hands.

The robotic chef utilizes 20 motors and 24 joints along with 129 sensors to capture the human movement of hands. It's manufactured by a firm named Shadow Robot.

Under the guidance of Tim Anderson, the 2011 BBC Masterchef champion, the robo chef is now training to whip up something delicious. Anderson is apparently teaching the robo chef to make crab bisque for the Hannover Messe where Anderson says it might be the ultimate sous chef.

The product is still two years from entering the market as Moley aims to make the unit more compact and also equip it with a built in refrigerator and dishwasher.

The robotic chef's tasks range from assembling and chopping up all the ingredients while doing cooking on the stove or in the oven then finishing up by cleaning dirty pans.

According to Moley's Mark Oleynik, the company wants people to be comfortable with the device. He adds this isn't an industrial machine or a device that can work at 10 times the normal speed but it adapts to the way a person moves in the kitchen at the same speed.

The robo chef will retail at a consumer version starting at £10,000 and its market is expected to be those that live in urban apartments.

The company aims to integrate and apply thousands of apps like recipes into the device whose motion capture ability will allow owners to also share their home recipes online.

Using robotics at home in still in its infancy stages. Many still do not consider robotics as autonomous systems to be used at home but this will eventually change if robotic chefs and other similar machines are to be accepted by the market.
