The United States and China have become the most unlikely allies as the two countries band together against cybercrimes and cybercriminals.
Last April 9, State Councilor and Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Guo Shengkun and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson met for the first time.

In their meeting, they discussed homeland security and law enforcement cooperation.Tension between the two nations have been momentarily put aside as they unite to try and reduce the threats of crimes on the internet.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated the U.S. and China want to establish discussions regarding cyber issues. This is the first step for both governments to re-establish full- on discussions for cyber security.
The DHS along with China's Ministry of Public Sector have agreed to focus on crimes through the internet that cross over the boundaries of countries. Examples of these crimes in question are money laundering and child pornography.
The cooperation between the two nations begins with both sides opening and increasing the flow of information sharing about cross-border movements of foreign online terrorists with the use of international databases.
While plans against cyberterrorism have been discussed, The Hill notes talks between the nations have reached an awkward point since the Department of Justice charged five members of the Chinese military with cyber espionage actions in 2014.
Apart from that, they were also indicted for economic espionage and other offenses directed at American victims in the nuclear, metals, and solar industries.
The previous year saw China accusing the U.S. of constantly hacking their defense websites. Ministry of Defense spokesman, Geng Yansheng, said the Ministry and China Military Online sites faced a steady stream of hacks that averaged as much as 144,000 attempts.
The open talks between the two countries could help curb the previous finger pointing and their cooperation could hopefully be used towards reducing cybercrimes.
