Rita Wilson gave the world some very personal news early Tuesday. The 58-year old "Sleepless in Seattle" actress has just been diagnosed with breast cancer, and just like Angelina Jolie, has undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

In an official statement to People, she revealed that the first round of tests failed to detect breast cancer, but the second round and a second opinion did. Rita thanked her spouse, Tom Hanks, family and friends, and expressed how blessed she feels to have them by her side to support her.

She told the publication that she got the two surgery procedures last week after she got diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma. She assured family, friends and fans that she's now recovering and is expected to fully recover because she was able to catch the cancer early and because she is surrounded with excellent doctors.

Fellow celebrities showed their support for Rita, as well as fans who felt empowered by her admission. Rita said that her goal is to encourage other women to get tested, to get a second opinion and of course, "to trust their instincts if something does not feel right." 

Some of the celebrities who took to Twitter to express their admiration and send their love are Katie Couric, John Stamos, Marie Osmond, Josh Groban, Christina Applegate, Nia Vardalos, Christiane Amanpour, Rosie O'Donnell, Sara Bareilles and Lisa Rinna.
