A number of upcoming iPhones are rumored for release this year. Most of the discussion focuses on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s, however.

But there are also rumors about an upcoming iPhone 6C that will replace its one and a half year old predecessor -- the iPhone 5C. The "C" line offers somewhat cheaper and very colorful iPhone models.

Rumors point to a September 2015 launch for the iPhone 6C. Futuresupplier, a China based cellphone parts wholesaler, featured on its site the supposed rear housing for the iPhone 6C. Compared to its predecessor, the upcoming 6C is smaller at 4 inches.

Another distinctive difference is the camera hole. The 5C has a round hole while the rumored 6C has an oval shaped hole quite similar to the iPhone 5S. 

While the 5C has one speaker hole, the 6C will feature two loudspeaker holes located at the bottom, according to Futuresupplier.

Another news outlet, DigiTimes, insist the iPhone 6C will be among the new Apple mobile phones to be released this year. It reported the 6C will have features such as near field communication (NFC) capabilities and Touch ID. The 4 inch rumored iPhone will also be powered by an A8 chip similar to the one use by the iPhone 6 series.

Feng.com, however, disputed the news Apple will release an iPhone 6C. The Chinese site claims Apple's suppliers in China received no production orders related to the iPhone 6C.

Although the site and news is written in Chinese, the translation basically says poor market reaction to the iPhone 5C has discouraged Apple from planning to launch a new iPhone C model.

DigiTimes has a penchant for reporting a lot of breaking news, as well as rumors about mobile gadget technology. Ultimately, only Apple can confirm the iPhone 6C rumor.
