Update on OnePlus Two: 2015 Release Date is on Despite Delay Rumors

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus assures the general public its upcoming OnePlus Two smartphone will be released later this year despite rumors it will be delayed until 2016.

The delay rumors were sparked by a controversial comment of OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. During an interview on Weibo, Lau said he believes the current OnePlus One smartphone can still attract a substantial part of the market for the rest of 2015.

Lau didn't say directly or indirectly there will be a delay in the OnePlus Two smartphone but his comment was immediately interpreted as an admission.

Carl Pei, one of the founders of OnePlus, immediately refuted the rumors. On his Twitter account, he reiterated the upcoming OnePlus Two smartphone will be released in the third quarter of 2015.

Pei announced at the CES 2105 event that as soon as the OnePlus Two is released its predecessor, the OnePlus One will be sold at discount until their current stockpile lasts. Pei hinted the size of the upcoming smartphone "will surprise people". He didn't indicate if the size will be smaller or bigger than the OnePlus One but it seems likely that it will be the former.

In contrast to its predecessor, the upcoming OnePlus Two smartphone is rumored to be sold at a slightly higher price. Estimates for the retail price of a OnePlus Two could reached as high as US$500.

Gizchina.com has reported that the OnePlus Two may have the 810 processor from Snapdragon, RAM with 4 GB and the battery is at 3,300 mAh. The site said the screen size of the OnePlus Two is the same as the previous model except that it has a 2K resolution.

If this is the case, then Pei would have to clarify his statement regarding the OnePlus Two screen size "surprising" customers.
