According to Lt. Lincoln Hoshino, representative for the Beverly Hills police department, at around 1:30 a.m., they received a report from the security of the Beverly Hills Hotel claiming that Richards was disturbing the premises due to intoxication and that she refused to leave after being asked to.
When police arrived and while she was being escorted out, she asked to go to the bathroom. Then she did not want to leave again. The police officers then entered the restroom and in a slurred speech, she cursed them and refused to leave which prompted the police to force her into custody.
At the station, she kicked a police officer in the leg. She was charged with public intoxication, trespassing and resisting an officer. At around 10:36 a.m. the next morning, Richards was released from the police station on a US$20,000 bail. She is expected to appear in court on May 10.
In December 2011, Richards went into rehab for a month. In an episode of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," she was accused of using crystal meth. Shortly after, she admitted to talk show host Andy Cohen of being an alcoholic. Richards said that she had been to rehab twice for substance abuse.
Richards, an aunt of former TV star Paris Hilton, appeared in the sitcom "Nanny and the Professor" in 1970 and in Disney films such as "Escape to Witch Mountain," "Return from Witch Mountain," "Wonderful World of Color," and "No Deposit, No Return." In 2006, she had a significant role in the movie, "Black Snake Moan."
