Tiny Times 3.0 Beats Transformers in Box Office Charts

Tiny Times 3.0' tops box office charts in China over Hollywood blockbuster 'Transformers 4: Age of Extinction' last week, ending July 20.

It was a strong week for China movies following weeks of trending Hollywood blockbusters with 'Tiny Times 3.0' garnering $50.12 million four days subsequent to its debut on Thursday. This was according to research group Entgroup.

'Tiny Times 3.0' is the third installment in the tween franchise based on author-turned-director Guo Jingming's novel that goes with the same title. The movie tells about the lives, love and careers of four girls from different backgrounds, all living in lavish homes and obsessing on designer products.

Actress Yang Mi returns to play the role of one of the main characters, Lin Xiao, acting alongside Amber Kuo and Ko Chen Tung.

The movie was co-produced by media corporations Huace Film Corporation and Heli Chenghuang Cultural Media Corporation along with others.

On the other hand, Paramount's 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' is still doing well in the second-largest movie market in the world. The Hollywood film ranked second in the charts, following 'Tiny Times 3.0'.

The fourth installment in the 'Transformers' franchise has raked a total of $306.28 million over its 24-day showing period. It had 133,806 screenings and 3.83 million admissions, making it China's highest-grossing film ever.

Placing third is the 3D horror flick by Raymond Yip called 'The House That Never Dies'. The movie revolves around the story of a house on Chaoyangmen Inner Street in Beijing supposedly haunted since the 1949 Communist Revolution.

After 4.37 million admissions and 81,360 screenings, the movie assumed third place in charts, earning $25.1 million during its opening weekend.

The film featured stars like Francis Ng, Ruby Lin, Tony Yang, Monica Mok, Amanda Qin and Li Jing.

Other Chinese movies like 'Old Boys: Way of the Dragon' and the romantic comedy 'The Breakup Guru' made it to the top five, placing at the 4th and 5th spots respectively.
