Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans made headlines Tuesday after he gave a powerful, and emotional, speech before the United Nations about the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
In the face of the overwhelming tragedy, Minister Timmermans sought to give dignity to the hundreds of victims who perished in the crash.

And while the rest of the world seeks to assign blame, Mr. Timmermans made it clear that the prominent goal for the Netherlands was to return all the victims' remains to their rightful homes.
The Foreign Minister paused frequently as he attempted to control his sentiments during the address, but veiled emotions seemed to show themselves throughout the speech as Timmermans pointed to the use of human remains as part of the larger "political game." He referred to these actions as "despicable."
Disturbing reports of questionable acts have emerged from the wreckage as of late, with victims' bodies being looted, and separatists in Ukraine have allegedly been pocketing jewelry, credit cards, electronics, and other valuables.
Witnesses also reported seeing empty wallets and purses scattered around the area where the aircraft had crashed. As a result, families of the victims were forced to begin urgently cancelling all credit cards carried by their loved ones.
But perhaps most heartbreaking was when Timmermans cast light on what the final moments of the innocent men, women, and children upon MH17 may have been like.
"Did they lock hands with their loves ones? Did they hold their children close to their hearts? Did they look each other in the eyes one final time in a wordless goodbye? We will never know," the Foreign Minister said with great emotion.
Investigations into the cause of the downing of MH17 as well as the looting which ensued are currently underway. Local authorities have promised that any looters caught would be "severely punished."
