However, just like November's Country Music Association Awards, the singer lost the big prize to Luke Bryan, his second Entertainer of the Year award.

Lambert, who wore a draped gray deep plunging neckline and a side slit gown by Bibhu Mohapatra, and also nominated for Entertainer of the Year, accepted the Top Female Vocalist Award.

She said she didn't realize what was happening and thanked everyone, saying, "I love my job so much. I will never not love my job."

Hosted by singer Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, this year's three-and-a-half-hour telecast is considered to be the most-attended live awards show ever.

In the meantime, Jason Aldean won the Male Vocal award, his third consecutive award; Florida Georgia Line won Vocal Duo of the Year for her duet with Bryan, "This Is How We Roll," and Randy Travis' who won three of his hits win Song of the Year ---the only other artist to have done so.

When Lee Brice introduced Travis, who had severe health problems including a over the past two years, it became one of the night's most emotional moments.

Another highlight of the show was Taylor Swift who was one of seven recipients of the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award.  Her mother, Andrea Swift, recently known to have cancer, presented her award.

She said she was a very proud of her daughter whom she called, "Brave enough to explore her musical curiosity."
