Google might be planning its wireless service launch later today if reports from The Wall Street Journal are to be believed, citing unnamed sources.
It's been in the works for years and waiting to launch since January. Google has been implementing the final touches to its wireless service, ensuring it will be available nationwide for U.S. customers to pick up straight away.

Google will run the wireless service as a mobile virtual network operator, utilizing T-Mobile and Sprint's network alongside public Wi-Fi spots. It will switch dynamically to the strongest signal between the three and hopefully drop customer's data costs.
There are also plans to make data rollover into next month's contract and allow customers a pay-as-you-go data contract by offering a set amount per month and then a one-time payment for more. That means a $40 per month data contract for 5 GB could be supplemented with another 1GB for $5 if the customer goes overboard.
It's a smart move by Google to ensure customers don't have to deal with outrageous bills every time they go over their allotted amount. It should make consumers more welcome to using mobile data and spending more time on the internet.
Initially, Google will only support the Nexus 6 with the new MVNO network as it needs special software to run the new dynamic network operator. More phones should be supported soon after although Google might have to make these Google Play Editions.
Considering the current profit margins Verizon and AT&T are hitting with mobile contracts, it's about time Google started focusing efforts to make contracts cheaper and more dynamic for the customer.
It has done the same with Google Fiber by offering unlimited 1 Gbps speeds for $70 per month, cheaper than most of the lower speed contracts offered by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and AT&T. The move has caused several providers to upgrade speeds in regions where Google Fiber is active to keep customers loyal to the service.
We'll have to wait and see if Google announces anything later today. Google's head of services Sundar Pichai announced at Mobile World Congress the company's intention to launch a wireless carrier in the U.S., stating it was a small operation that would come later in the year.
