Foursquare Announces New Feature with New Logo

Social networking site Foursquare is no longer identified as the white check hitting a green golf ball against a blue background.
Its new logo is a bright pink outline of a flag looking like the letter "F."
The new emblem signifies a major change in Foursquare, which has rebranded itself as a search app.

The new app comes in two options: Foursquare, a dedicated app for giving location-based Yelp-style recommendations and a new app called Swarm, where users announce their coordinates to find friends.
The creators of Foursquare hope the new logo re-establishes the app as a search-based tool and announces a brand new feature: the app will deliver results based on user's preferences such as what and where he or she likes to eat.
The app urgently needed an upgrade. Foursquare's average rating on the App Store dropped to 1.5 stars, with users complaining about the loss of the check-in feature.
"Every place you go now when you do a search by location, you get the exact same list as everyone else," said Jon Steinback, Foursquare's vice president for product experience.
"Why should you and your dad get the same bar recommendations? Instead of searching for an Irish pub, you can narrow your quest for a watering hole with such terms as 'trendy' or 'romantic.' Recommendations are made based on your tastes, previous tips and the check-ins of Foursquare's other 50 million users."
Foursquare used to be a site where users could check in at various establishments. It awarded a title of "mayor" to the most regular of regulars at an establishment.
The title of mayor in Foursquare is awarded to any user who has checked into a venue the most number of days within two months.
Swarm by Foursquare, is intended to be a convenient method of keeping up with what a user's friends are doing, while also letting the user check into places and at the same time. It automatically shows which neighborhood one is currently checked into.
The new version of Foursquare lets users of both Foursquare and Swarm switch between the two, much like the Facebook app and its messaging app.
