Facebook Launches Hello, New Android Dialer App

Facebook launched a new mobile dialer for Android named Hello earlier today in an effort to offer faster access to people and businesses using its social database.
It's another attempt to take over Android smartphones with services but instead of creating a whole new experience like with Home -- the failed skin replacement for Android launched in 2013 -- Facebook is now taking it one step at a time.

Hello has several new features Google's own dialer doesn't have, including connecting the relevant details to a phone number using Facebook's 1.3 billion user base. Most don't save their phone number on Facebook but over 800 million people use Facebook mobile, meaning it will have a record.
A name and bio will be added once the phone starts calling and once the phone call ends, contact information through a website or email address will be shown for follow up conversations.
Facebook is adding new levels of security and people can opt out of the name and bio if they don't want their phone number connected to their Facebook account. Users are also able to block numbers quickly -- sending it straight to voicemail -- as well as Facebook keeping a list of heavily blocked numbers from cold callers and spam numbers.
Searching for business numbers is much easier with Facebook's own database and allows the user to type in a few letters and find the relevant information for a restaurant, retailer or professional worker.
Although a quick Google Search normally brings up information of a company's addresses and numbers, having all this information inside the dialer application removes the two step process. That said, Google's own Hangouts dialer offers that search functionality and it hasn't been too popular since its launch.
Facebook Messenger already makes up 10 percent of all VoIP calls and we suspect once WhatsApp users update their app, both applications combined will make over 35 percent.
If Facebook can also influence how Android users call people, it puts Facebook in charge of even more social activity on mobile and removes Google from the scene entirely.
Considering the growth of social and the downturn of search, it's clear Facebook is in the best position of any company to become the next trillion dollar franchise. Facebook's growth has been over 40 percent this year alone, while Google has trended on the five percent margin line with no real growth to speak of.
