English actor Alan Rickman, most notably known for his role as Professor Snape in the "Harry Potter" movie franchise, admitted to have finally tied the knot with his long-time partner Rima Horton.

This was revealed when the 69-year-old actor was interviewed for Bild, a German newspaper. When Rickman was asked by the paper what the secret is to his successful relationship with Horton, he gave shocking response that they just married recently, in New York City. According to him, it was great because no one was there--it was a secret wedding.

Rickman also shared that after the hush-hush wedding, they walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and then ate lunch.

Rickman and the 68-year-old Horton actually met 50 years ago, in 1965, when he was 19 years old and Horton was 18. The couple started living together in London in 1977-a total of 40 years, quite enjoying a low-profile relationship.

Horton is Rickman's first ever girlfriend. She was the Labour Party councillor on the Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council from 1986 to 2006 and then started teaching at the nearby Kingston University, as an economics professor. Rickman, in an interview with HELLO! Magazine, described Horton as unbelievably and incredibly tolerant, and "possibly a candidate for sainthood."

Rickman revealed that he bought Horton a ring that costs US$200, even though she did not want a huge ring. As a result, Horton, according to Rickman, never wears the ring.

Rickman is presently promoting his new film "A Little Chaos," which the actor also directed apart from starring in it. He co-stars in the movie with Kate Winslet, who is the center of the film, playing a character named Sabine De Barra, a landscape designer.

The English actor is a former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Apart from his iconic role as Severus Snape in the "Harry Potter" movie franchise, he is also remembered as Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" and as Sheriff of Nottingham in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves "
