In the interview, Tao's father said, "Tao has agreed to leave EXO, his treatment is going to be priority and everything else is up to Tao to decide."
According to Sina, the reason behind the idol's father's request for his son to be let go by SM Entertainment is because of health concerns as well as the 22-year old singer's peace of mind. Tao's father cited that in the past three years that Tao has been active in EXO, his health was compromised.
In said report, Tao's father reiterated that the talent outfit did not do the proper measures to take care of Tao.
He further stated, "When I last visited Korea, and tried to bring Tao with me to give him proper care, the company suddenly said, 'Let's talk about Tao's future'." The father explained that he was glad that SM Entertainment is acknowledging Tao's hard work, but also stated that in the end, it seemed that the company is not giving Tao credit for his performances.
He then spoke in his son's defense, saying that the idol did not hold any grudge against SM Entertainment despite their lack of care for him when he was injured. "As a father, I can no longer watch my son go up on stage with injuries," says Tao's father.
On April 22, the EXO member's father posted a long message on Weibo, where he expressed his wish for his son to leave EXO. SM Entertainment also confirmed the authenticity of the message, saying that despite the complications, they hoped that Tao will continue to be a talent under the company.
SM Entertainment has yet to deny or confirm the news.
