Heilongjiang Siberian tiger attack livestock again

June 30th, according to Forest Industry Bureau of Heilongjiang Province, after two domestic animals were attacked in Huanan forest on June 19th and June 21st, another Siberian tiger attack event happened here before dawn on June 29th. A black cattle more than 800 pounds was torn off a leg.

Around 12 p.m. on June 28th, a resident Che Shiguo lived in Huanan forest heard his dog barked loudly, and his black cattle gave out a shrill scream. Che Shiguo wen out hurriedly, found a giant beast was dragging his black cattle. Che Shiguo returned home rapidly and brought out an iron pot. In order to frighten off the beast, Che Shiguo beat the pot heavily. After the giant beast ran away, he found the black cattle's left leg had been torn away, and many scratches on the cattle's back.

6 a.m. on June 29th, stuff of forestry bureau of Heilongjiang Province rushed to the scene. After investigation, the footprints left by the tiger were quite similar to those on 19th and 21st. It was considered to be the same wild Siberian tiger.

According to Wang Yulun, the group captain of the forestry bureau, there have been several domestic animal attack events these days. It is believed there was a wild Siberian tiger. In order to protect the precious tiger effectively, the forestry bureau has founded a wild Siberian tiger protection and monitoring team. They have issued a notice to the forestry centers nearby; they also took advantages of TV program, handbills and propaganda boards to publicize the knowledge of wild Siberian tigers and the common sense of self-rescue when encountering tigers in the wild.

The Siberian tiger is a tiger subspecies inhabiting mainly the Sikhote Alin mountain region with a small subpopulation in southwest Primorye province in the Russian Far East. The population has been stable for more than a decade due to intensive conservation efforts, but partial surveys conducted after 2005 indicate that the tiger population is declining. In 2008, the Siberian tiger became one of the World's top ten most endangered rare animals.
