Viewers were left crying and heartbroken after Patrick Dempsey's character died on the Thursday episode of the long-running show Grey's Anatomy. And even Patrick himself said that he also hasn't quite gotten over it.
The 49-year old actor opened up about the departure of one of the fans' most favorite characters, Dr. Derek Shepherd, also known as McDreamy and revealed that it came as a shock to him as he just recently signed a two-year contract last year.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Patrick attempted to explain the sudden twist of events when he had just recently renewed his contract and said that the story just evolved. "It's just kind of happened."
Luckily, the actor loved the way the story played out. Describing the plot as pretty good, he added that "it was really something that was kind of surprising that unfolded, and it just naturally came to be."
Though he's insistent that he wasn't blindsided by the bold move that killed his character, he admitted that he hasn't quite accepted the outcome yet.
When he was asked if he shed some tears on his last day on his set, he straightforwardly answered, "No. I'm still processing it," and continued to say that the "post-Grey's experience" is part of his mourning process.
After Thursday's episode, Patrick wrote on his official Twitter account and expressed his gratitude to all of his 969 thousand followers. After saying thank you to the fans, he said, "What an incredible 11 years, I love you all."
However, many are insisting that McDreamy was intentionally killed off after reports claimed that it was his diva behavior that infuriated the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes.
A source close to the situation revealed that Patrick has been coming to set with a diva attitude, which caused Shonda to suspend him temporarily. However, the source further revealed that there were rumors that he will not be coming back full time.
If that is the case, it just goes to prove that there is very little patience on set for actors and actresses who act up, especially after Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington departed for reportedly clashing with the cast and staff.
An insider said that, "Given all the previous problems with Katherine Heigle and Isaiah Washington, there is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent."
Regardless of what issues there really are between Patrick and Shonda, McDreamy's death was advantageous for the show as The Hollywood Reporter reported that the series got a rating of 2.8 among ages 18-49 on Thursday.
