Cablevision has launched a new set of packages aimed at "cord cutters" that want to view all content through the internet, instead of through cable.
It's a growing trend amongst Americans unhappy with the thousands of unused channels on cable and the spike in prices seemingly every quarter, as programmers look for even more money for content.

The first package offers Cablevision's Optimum Ultra 50 broadband speed (50 Mbps down, 25 Mbps up), a free digital antenna and free Wi-Fi hotspots provided by Cablevision for $44.90.
Cablevision does tack on a $4.95 per month bill for the digital antenna license, alongside upping the price after the first year. Still, $44.90 is a decent price per month for 50 Mbps in the U.S., even if it pushes up to $65 per month at the end of the year.
The other option is Optimum Online Internet Basics -- 5 Mbps down, 1 Mbps up. Alongside all Wi-Fi voice service and the other options available in the more expensive tier but for $34.90 per month with no price increase next year.
HBO Go also comes for $15 per month extra. Cablevision is the only internet service provider offering HBO Go without owning an Apple device, making this a decent offer even if there is no price off the service.
Both of these options are cheap as far as internet services go although they aren't exactly awesome for people wanting full HD Netflix and other services, which require a good amount of speed.
Cablevision has not adopted the data plans AT&T, Google Fiber and Cox Communications have offered in the past few years, meaning customers are still stuck on 100 Mbps at best.
Broadband is starting to become more of a plan of its own rather than a deal with cable, landline and wireless like it's been in the U.S. for a long time. Now that a lot of people are becoming "cord cutters", cable TV is becoming less important and services like Sling TV, PlayStation Vue and Apple's reported service look set to take the place of traditional cable boxes.
