Winehouse Family Slams Movie About Singer

The Winehouse family criticized a documentary, titled, "Amy" that traces the late singer's life --- from the early beginnings of her career until the height of her fame and her tragic death.
The family spokesman Chris Goodman issued a statement on Sunday that said the documentary, directed by Asif Kapadia and due to premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, has no actual basis and called it a "misleading" film.

The family complained that the documentary suggested that Amy's family were not much of a help to her. The singer had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for years and in 2011, died at the age of 27 from an accidental alcohol poisoning.
The statement further said that the film did not acknowledge the constant help and concern the family gave Amy throughout the years and that it has done a "disservice" to other individuals and families suffering from the complicated effects of addiction.
Amy's father Mitch Winehouse told the Sun that he was unfairly portrayed in the film and said he felt sick when he watched it for the first time. The film had portrayed him to be the reason why Amy had turned to drugs based on the interview with her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil. According Mitch, it was actually Blake who manipulated and coerced her into taking crack and heroin.
Meanwhile, the filmmakers issued a statement in response to the Winehouse family and said that their work was based on "total objectivity" and that the family had been supporting their efforts. According to them, the film was based on interviews with about 100 people who were familiar with the singer such as family members, friends, former partners and people who worked with her in the music industry.
According to David Joseph is the chairman and CEO of Universal Music UK
Universal says the film is a complex and tender movie that tackles family, fame, addiction and most importantly, the musical genius of Amy Winehouse.
The film, "Amy" will be shown at the May 13-24 Cannes film festival in the south of France.
