Apple Reveals 61 Million iPhone Sales, Beats Analyst Expectations

(Photo : Reuters) Apple has revealed yet another excellent quarter.
Apple has revealed its earnings report for the second quarter of 2105, and the results are better than expected. It managed to sell 61 million iPhones and sales in the Mac and services market were up compared to last year.
The big winner is the iPhone sales this quarter, beating analyst expectations of 55 to 58 million units. Apple already wooed investors with 74 million sales last quarter, setting a record for most smartphones sold in a quarter.

iPad sales continued to dwindle down, from 16 million to 12 million in the space of a year. The lack of core changes to the iPad line since the iPad Mini make it hard to justify swapping the iPad 2 or 4 out for the iPad Air 2; same story for original iPad Mini owners moving to the iPad Mini 3.
The iPad Pro may be able to change some of the iPad's fortunes, although it is all up to how much Apple puts into the professional tablet. It is expected to feature a 12.9-inch display and may have two ports: one for charging, the other for keyboard and accessories.
Having a sort-of middleman between the iPad and Mac might be a decent way to keep iPad sales growing, although we cannot really sell millions of consumers wanting this more expensive option.
It will also be the first time Apple has to look at a change in operating system, possibly adding Mac OS X instead of iOS to the iPad Pro. That would go against Apple's statements that iOS is a professional platform that can run the best applications.
Apple reported an increase in Mac sales from last year, adding 500,000 more customers. The Mac is one of the only desktop brands not suffering from the move to mobile, showing Apple's customers are buying more than one product.
Services were also on the rise in terms of revenue, though we have yet to see Apple's plans for 2015, which includes the relaunch of Beats Music and its own internet TV service. That should bring a few million to the services revenue, and we should expect both announcements to happen at WWDC 2015 in June.
