TMZ reported earlier on Tuesday that Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is in a coma and unresponsive. The news quickly spread like wildfire on the Internet and picked up by other news media outlets, until Mitchell's official website finally refuted the claims, saying it was only a rumor.

It was on the evening of Tuesday, April 28, 2015, when the 71-year-old singer's official website released a statement, that the rumors spreading on the Internet are false and that Mitchell, although she is indeed in the hospital, is alert and has her full senses and is expected to recover fully.

TMZ's initial report says that Leslie Morris, Mitchell's friend was seeking a conservatorship to oversee his friend's medical care.  In the report by TMZ, it also said that Morris has filed legal documents saying Mitchell was unconscious and unresponsive and therefore cannot provide for her personal needs.

Mitchell's official website immediately was corrected the TMZ report saying that the document filed by Morris provides him the authority to decide for Mitchell once she leaves the hospital if she has no 24-hour doctor care. The official site added that Mitchell is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight.

It was on March 31 when Mitchell was found unconscious at her home and was taken to UCLA Medical Center. She is currently resting and remains under observation.

The Canadian singer-songwriter and painter's debut album was in 1968 and her songs, Urge for Going", "Chelsea Morning", "Both Sides, Now", "The Circle Game" are now considered classic folk.  Her 1971 album "Blue" is among the list of Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"."

Mitchell is presently the face of Saint Laurent's spring ad campaign, which debuted in January. She is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, one of which is a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. Mitchell was also awarded the Polar Music Prize in 1996, and a year later, in 1997, was inducted into the Hollywood Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
