Seven warships are sent to take part in China-Russia drill

June 1st, The Chinese warships to participate in the China-Russia "Maritime Joint Exercise 2013" consists of four guided missile destroyers, two guided missile frigates, as well as a comprehensive supply ship, left for Russia to take part in the drill from Qingdao City. This is the first time for the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) to leave bases in large formation, under the circumstance of no security system to rely on. And this is also the largest-ever naval drill with a foreign partner.
China's central military committees, Navy Commander Wu Shengli wished the fleet bon voyage.
"Maritime Joint Exercise 2013" drill will start on July 5 in the Sea of Japan and run through July 12. The ships will head for the rallying point in Peter the Great Bay near Vladivostok.
The participating troops in the drill include 18 warships, a submarine, 3 fixed-wing aircraft, 5 ship-borne helicopters and two Special Forces.
Chinese fleet will berth at Peter the Great Bay near Vladivostok. There will be high-level visits between participating parties. Officers will hold dragon boats, volleyball and many other sports activities. Moreover, the Shijiazhuang warship from China and Varyag warship from Russia will be opened to the public during the drill.
In the drill, China's main combat warships are from the North China Sea Fleet and the South China Sea Fleet. The Shenyang warship, which entered into service in 2006, is currently one of the newest types of guided missile destroyers independently developed and produced by China. Deployed in the North China Sea Fleet, the Shenyang guided missile destroyer takes charge mainly of the taskforce's area air-defense and the mission of key-point air-defense.
The Yancheng warship and Yantai warship entered into service in 2011 in a destroyer flotilla under the North China Sea Fleet of the PLAN.
The Wuhan warship is one of the main battle ships among those domestically produced destroyers in active service with the most modernized degree, the most advanced equipment performance, and the strongest comprehensive combat capability.
