A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) official, called on colleagues to carry out the party's "mass line" campaign to the highest standards.

He urged CPC officials to make a serious and sincere effort to implement the campaign, and show commitment to solving problems to gain the trust of the people.
As head of the campaign team, Liu ordered a crackdown on lavish lifestyles of politicians, including visits to high-end private clubs and unnecessary government spending. He also tried to address the problem of "naked officials," a term used to refer to those whose family has emigrated abroad.
Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said the campaign was at a crucial stage as it will begin to target CPC members and officials of government at the grassroots level.
The first phase of the campaign zeroed in on central and provicial-level officials, and the second phase focused on lower-level offices and leaderships.
Liu also stressed the need for the public to take part in the campaign.
The CPC launched the campaign last June to bring the party closer to the people.
Party members were asked to practice self-criticism and interact with the masses to foster good relations with them,
Party General Secretary Xi Jinping said the campaign would be a "thorough cleanup" of unacceptable work practices, such as "formalism, bureucratism, hedonism and extravagance."
Following the launch of the campaign last year, China Daily published an article explaining mass line as one of Mao Zedong's legacies. It said that although it was not the first time that the mass line would be implemented, "the need to prioritize the interests of the people, to make efforts to solve their problems, and to share their successes and failures was never more urgent than now."
