Chinese Relief Workers Render Aid To Earthquake Victims In Nepal On International Labor Day

Chinese relief workers assigned in Kathmandu, Nepal marked the International Labor Day by volunteering in rescue missions and rendering aid to the earthquake victims last May 1, Xin Hua reports.

Kathmandu is a melting pot for tourists and also known as the 'cultural gem' of Nepal.

The ancient palaces served as a residence to the previous monarchies that ruled the country for centuries.

The ancient structures are now reduced to rubble after the 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Himalayan nation.

The Red Cross of China established their mobile hospital near the ruins of Bhaktapur. The Red Cross China medical team consisted of 18 doctors, working hand in hand in the investigation of the disaster.

"What we are focusing on is the prevention of epidemics, purification of water, observation of the recovery of the sick and injured, and will produce a plan to be carried out in the next few days," said Chen Jinhong, head of the China Red Cross Team.

Chen also elucidated that half of the medical team will be heading to the provinces adversely affected by the earthquake through a Nepal Army helicopter.

Zou Shaodong, an employee of a Chinese Tourism Agency in Nepal, also works as a coordinator for the relief agencies in operation in Kathmandu.

Zou collaborates with various rescue teams and aid workers from China. Zou organized an association of a local Chinese community giving aid to the earthquake victims.

Wu Chuntai, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, announced that more than 350 medical doctors, engineers and rescue workers from China are dispersed across Nepal.

The Chinese Ambassador and Mahesh Nanet, Nepal's Minister of Industry visited the base of a Chinese military medical team in Kathmandu, giving gratitude for their service.

The Chinese military medical team consisted of 180 members, which were deployed to Nepal two days after the earthquake.

Nasnet personally thanked the Chinese medical soldiers for offering their medical support in the time of disaster.

Aside from China, Thailand and Pakistan also deployed their medical/rescue teams and relief workers to provide assistance to victims and look for potential survivors in the ruins of the earthquake.
