The deadly Ebola Virus, which wiped out more than 10,000 people, was typically transmitted through direct contact with an infected person's bodily fluids, especially through unprotected sex.
It was deemed by scientists that the virus can live in the semen for almost three months. However, most health officials now believe that the virus can possibly spread rapidly through unprotected sex, according to India Times.

This fact was proven by a recent case that occurred in West Africa, leading to a conclusion that infection can happen more than five months later through unprotected sex.
A 44-year-old female from Liberia was infected with the Ebola virus. Upon thorough investigation, it was discovered that she had unprotected sex with a 46-year-old man, who became symptomatic of the Ebola virus last November.
The female patient died within a week of infection last March. However, this incident is still not strongly proven as another woman, who also had unprotected sex with the same man, tested negative for Ebola virus.
The said virus spreads through contact with a patient's sweat, urine, saliva and urine. Upon recovery, the patient may not be contagious but there is still a slight chance that the fluids can cause infection.
The previous advisory to the public was the use of condoms within three months. Now officials are urging the locals to avoid unprotected sex.
The recent Ebola cases reported in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone are currently being investigated by the authorities. The cases note that the infection was widely attributed to sexual transmission by the survivors, but these cases are not entirely confirmed, according to the US Centers Of Disease Control.
The main reason why the Ebola cases were not confirmed by sexual transmission was the fact that there are only fewer than 10 cases reported. This makes it difficult to conclude that the infection came from unprotected sex, as stated by CDC spokeswoman Kristen Nordlund.
