Simpsons Renewed For Two More Seasons

America's favorite dysfunctional family will thankfully be with us for two more seasons. Fox announced on Monday, May 4, renewed "The Simpsons" for Seasons 27 and 28. This will make the satirical animated series reach an impressive 625 episodes, making it officially the longest-running scripted series in television history.

The patriarch of the American family, Homer Simpson, proudly quipped that he has outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and 'McDreamy,' because he has something they don't: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction.

"The Simpsons" was created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company and premiered on December 17, 1989. The sitcom portrays the lifestyle of middle-class American family, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, in the fictional town of Springfield, poking fun of American culture and society.

Since its debut 26 years ago, the show has since won 31 Emmy awards and became the first ever animated television series to win a Peabody Award. The hit show also bagged an Oscar nomination in 2012 for the theatrical short "The Longest Daycare." In 2000, "The Simpsons," was honored a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

With the TV series' ceaseless popularity, there was never a doubt for its renewals. The only suspense every season is the renegotiations with the show's voice cast. In its current 26th season, the show has exceeded 570 episodes, outstripping another animated Fox hit, "Family Guy," who just hit the 250th episode mark this weekend. Another Fox animated series, "Bob's Burgers," will be returning in the 2015-16 TV season, for its sixth season of 22 new episodes.

Deadline reports that this season, "The Simpsons" is averaging a 2.7 among Adults 18-49. Over 30 days, the same publication reported, the animated series delivers an average audience of 7.7 million across platforms; up 45 percent from its Live+Same Day viewership (7.7 mil vs. 5.3 mil).,
