After dropping from "Suicide Squad," Tom Hardy is setting his eyes on another comic book character role, but this time, as Frank Castle in "The Punisher."
In an interview with Collider, the "Dark Knight Returns" alum explains that he would love to play Frank Castle in one of the new superhero movies that Warner Bros. has up their sleeves despite having a short stature.

"I'm not big enough to be The Punisher, I'm 5'9"," laughed Hardy.
Hardy, who recently played the titular role in the adrenaline-addled and heart-pumping post-apocalyptic action film "Mad Max: Fury Road," recently dropped out of Warner Bros.' "Suicide Squad," raising rumors that he had conflict with the direction and the way the script was handled.
In another interview with Collider, he explained how bad weather during the filming of Academy Award winner for Best Director Alejandro G. Inarritu's "The Revenant" made it impossible for him to have back-to-back projects.
"It would have smashed the two, I would've had a beard. It was just not gonna happen so I got ass-slammed technically out of Suicide Squad, gutted," explained the "Inception" star, slightly bummed out.
"So I had to hand it over to Joel Kinnaman, who will do an amazing job. It's just I got bumped out, and that's cool that's the way it is," he continued.
Hardy already starred as a comic book character in the DC Universe back in 2012 when he played the main antagonist Bane in "The Dark Knight Returns." His interpretation was a big sigh of relief to Bat-fans everywhere after the dismal portrayal of the same character in 1997's "Batman and Robin."
Marvel does have the rights to "The Punisher" back, and given the violent depiction of the character in "Punisher: War Zone" in 2008 and the recent success of Netflix's "Daredevil" and its showrunner Stephen S. DeKnight being interested if it carried an R rating, it would be a waste of great potential if they fail to exploit a well-celebrated character.
