Tornadoes Hit Oklahoma And Nebraska; No Casualties Reported

A tornado has struck Oklahoma City and Nebraska on Wednesday, prompting people to hide in the safest place until the disaster passed.

According to MSN, aside from Oklahoma City, tornadoes were also reported to hit north of Wichita, Kansas and along the Kansan-Nebraska border.

The National Weather Service meteorologist Angele Pfankuch said that Roseland, Nebraska was hit at 4:22 p.m. on Wednesday and at least around 10 to 15 homes were damaged. On the other hand, according to weather service meteorologist Michael Scotten, a weak storm has formed in the southwestern Oklahoma shortly after 3 p.m.

The disaster brought destructions of some buildings yet no casualties and injuries have been reported as the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management has opened its operation center for help, although, no county had requested any assistance.

"We haven't gotten reports of damage from any of our local emergency managers yet," said spokeswoman Keli Cain.

The terminal at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has served as an evacuation of the people at around 7 p.m. Wednesday. The airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said that shortly around 5 p.m. people has moved into a tunnel beneath the terminal because of the storm, then they were allowed to return to the terminal shortly before 6 p.m. 

Meanwhile, the ABC News reported that Dale Thompson, Director of Grady County Emergency Services, said that around 7:30 p.m. initial estimates show that about 10 homes were destroyed in Amber and about 25 homes in Bridge Creek.

Furthermore, Richard Thompson from the Storm Prediction Center stated that bad weather is possible from Nebraska to West Texas that may led to some overnight flooding. "This is the first of potentially several days of a severe weather risk, there could be some pretty heavy rain overnight and eventually flooding could be a concern," he said.

Moreover, according to The Guardian, Jonathan Kurtz, a National Weather Service meteorologists, aims to highlight the importance of preparedness for any weather, wherein he said: "People just really need to stay weather aware, have a plan and understand that severe storms are possible across portions of the southern plains almost daily through Saturday."
